When I moved into my house 5 years ago, I noticed the grout in the tile was a very dark brown. At first glance, sure, it looks like maybe they grouted it that way, adding a darker grout to play tricks on the mind, perhaps? Nope. That my friends, was just dirt, mildew, and whoever knows what else was in that once light beige brand new grout. (excuse me for a moment….ick, ick, ick!! Okay all done.)
Now maybe you think, how did you know it wasn’t just a dark grout? Glad you asked, in the areas where foot traffic was low, say, corners where a TV would sit, you could clearly see that the grout was supposed to be beige. Once again, EW!
Apparently this happens often because a few months later, a friend of mine found a product and from the moment I saw her grout I knew I needed it. So, I found myself at the local Home Depot in search for it. And for $13, who would pass that up!
It’s called Polyblend Grout Renew. And its purpose is to make grout look like new again and help resist new stains! Yes please!
“Polyblend 8 fl. oz. Grout Renew is a water-based, acrylic, urethane stain and sealer for renewing or changing the color of cement grout joints. It seals against stains while it colors. Contains patented technology to inhibit mold and mildew.”

I ended up purchasing the Antique White color because it matched well with my creamy colored tiles. Although the process can be tedious, I found that the look of my “new” grout was well worth it! You want to start with clean area (just mopping to remove surface gunk, I have kids so surface gunk happens) Next, take an old tooth brush, dab it into the PolyBlend Grout Renew and apply to the grout. Viola! It’s gorgeous already. You do need to clean up as you go, removing the Grout Renew from the edges of the tile itself, but that’s a pretty simple wiping job. I did find that a few times I went over an area twice with very little product to freshen the color a bit more. I love love LOVE the results.
This 8 oz bottle last forever too! I did my entire first floor (all tile) and powder room and I still have some leftover for my upstairs bathrooms!
If you are looking for amazingly affordable way to renew your grout, change the color back to its original state, and even seal the grout to prevent future stains. This will be your best friend! It does it all in one small bottle!
